Mandarin immersion effort January 30th, 2007

We still hope the District may be able to accommodate a Mandarin immersion program in the future.

    To help advocate,

    • Inform yourself and others about the benefits and logistics of Mandarin immersion. A great resource is Palo Alto’s Mandarin Immersion Feasibility Study
    • Contact the board members and District Superintendent to let them know there is significant interest in Mandarin Immersion. The topic would have to be put on a board meeting agenda before anything happens. Michael Barber and Dave Pine are two board members who have shown a strong interest in immersion. Here is the contact information for the District staff and board members.
    • Create a positive environment for Mandarin immersion by
      • supporting the current Spanish program. The better that experience is, the more likely the district is to consider a second program
      • talking to other families to maintain interest and generate new interest in Mandarin immersion. Refer them to our website and Yahoo group.
      • talking to the teachers and principals at your neighborhood school to let them know how exciting you think this is, so we can hopefully find a site that is willing to host the program.
DVDs of Information Nights available November 9th, 2006

Did you miss the information nights?

Did you want to share the exciting experience with friends who are considering immersion?

I have DVDs of both the October 19 and November 8 information nights. It really is helpful to hear from the parents, teachers, and students, to see that language immersion is a well-established and successful educational model.

If you would like to view the DVDs (no cost), please contact
    juliemak @ stanfordalumni.org for copies.
